PROGRESSIVE   NEW “The Road” , the new chapter for teh Airportman, is their personal soundtrack for the novel of the same title by Corman MacCarthy. A 30 minute suite full of soft atmosphere, slow-motion guitar and a melancholic cello. The music is recorded live in studio . A dark trip though the subconscious. "The Road", nuovo capitolo degli AIRPORTMAN, rappresenta la loro personale colonna sonora dell'omonimo romanzo di Corman MacCarthy. Liberamente ispirato dal racconto dello scrittore americano, un viaggio sonoro tra le rovine di un mondo ridotto a ceneri. Il non luogo devastato e fotografato dallo scrittore, rivisto e sonorizzato dal gruppo cuneese in un'unica suite di oltre 30 minuti, tra filmiche movenze, chitarre accarezzate in slow-motion, atmosfere soffuse, impreziosite da un malinconico violoncello. Un'unica ispirazione per i muscisti che registrano in presa diretta l'intero disco: una voce narrante dell'amico Stefano Giaccone (già in "Off") che regala anche gli inserti di un sax sofferente. Un viaggio sonoro cupo, riflessivo, emozionante....

PROGRESSIVE   NEW 32nd Anniversary Edition of the legendary occult prog album by Antonius Rex, with an unreleased song (Monastery) and original "nude witch" cover. Probably the most charismatic figure of all the Italian prog scene, Antonio Bartoccetti (Antonius Rex) began his career going to Milan from the Marche, forming Jacula, Dietro Noi Deserto (even with a single on Decca in 1971!), and Invisible Force (another lonely single in 1971). Not real bands but just a group of musicians working beyond the leading figures of Bartoccetti and Doris Norton (aka Fiamma Dallo Spirito). In 1974 a new name change to Antonius Rex and an album called "Neque semper arcum tendit rex" (Black Widow Records Cat. BWR 066). Despite a contact to release it on Vertigo, the label considered it to be too outrageous, with the black and white cover reproducing a 17th century "diabolic" letter and strong lyrics, especially in the Devil letter track. The album was planned for release on drummer Albert Goodman's Darkness label, but it never went over a promo issue. So the first real commercially released Antonius Rex album is Zora from 1977, on the small Tickle label and, again, with an outrageous cover that was replaced with a different one a year later. Zora includes a reworking of a Jacula's Tardo pede in magiam versus track (Morte al potere is a third revised version of U.F.D.E.M.); their main elements are as usual church organ, dark atmospheres, lyrics dealing with occultism. Originally album has four tracks and "Gnome" bonus track was presented in the later issue with different cover in 1978...now this renewed version with the original artwork includes new photos and an unreleased track titled Monastery never heard before!

It features Lino vairetti (Osanna) lead vocal on the cover of "L'uomo". It features also the cover of "The pot head pixies" of the australian Gong. Se il precedente album (Alatul, 2004) era una sorta di viaggio sonoro fino ai confini del Mediterraneo, il terzo lavoro per Gennaro "Mandara" de Rosa porta con sé, chiare e ben visibili, tutte le caratteristiche di un ritorno. Dopo aver avuto modo di crescere dal punto di vista artistico e professionale, attraverso importanti collaborazioni tra le quali ci piace ricordare i tour europei come batterista e percussionista de Il Parto delle Nuvole Pesanti, l'esperienza di Pentole&Computer assieme al "99 Posse" Marco Messina, gli spettacoli teatrali con la compagnia Kripton del regista Cauteruccio e, infine, il tour che sta accompagnando la reunion dei 99 POSSE, questo disco rappresenta, prima di tutto, la migliore metafora per rappresentare ciò che oggi è l'artista "Mandara". Meglio: una cartina tornasole dei colori e degli umori dell'animo di un musicista, che dopo aver girato il mondo in tournée, incontrando artisti di ogni genere e cedendo alla fascinazione di suoni, luoghi, linguaggi e stili quanto mai disparati, riporta tutte queste esperienze a casa per farne materia sonora. Così è nato "Mandara", e non a caso, questa volta - nonostante per il percussionista calabrese sia già il terzo album - il titolo del disco coincide con il nome del progetto a cui de Rosa è legato fin dagli esordi. Il risultato è un album energico e corale, in cui trovano spazio, una per brano, tutte le anime del suo complesso background musicale. Dai ritmi africani e indiani fino al miglior rock progressive anni settanta, passando per i suoni digitali, le colonne sonore per il teatro e l'etno-rock italiano. Questo album Mandara attinge alle collaborazioni, oltre all'immancabile apporto del "secondo Mandara" Gianfranco De Franco, di nomi del calibro di Marco "Posse" Messina (autore delle programmazioni in "Hassan I Sabbah"), Peppe Voltarelli (riconoscibilissima la sua vena poetica nelle parole di "Apfelsaft"), il jazzista Marco Zurzolo (sassofono in "Yallah"). Poi un lunga scia di collaborazioni di grande lustro: come Amy Denio, versatile musicista e cantante della scena alternativa statunitense (è sua la voce in "Wind Song" e "Hassan I Sabbah"), il rapper Kiave (voce in "Wind song"), l'intera banda musicale della Città di Corigliano (autrice di una straordinaria coda nel finale di "The pot head pixies"), Lino Vairetti (leader degli "Osanna" e voce in "L'uomo"), il musicista tunisino Marzouk Mejiri (voce e percussioni in "Tiiri tiiri"), Alessandro Castriota Scanderberg e l'attore-cantante statunitense Jay Bethay Simba (voci in "B.B. the Kings") e Narajan Chandra Adhykari, musicista del bengala, esponente del movimento Baul (voce in "Shundor Naya"). Un benefico melting-pot di nazionalità e culture, segno che confrontarsi con linguaggi e culture diverse non ha mai rappresentato un problema per Mandara. A dare spessore a tutto il lavoro, due preziose cover: "The pot head pixies" degli australiani Gong - brano di culto del rock-progressivo anni settanta - e il rifacimento di "L'uomo" dei partenopei "Osanna" (cui prende parte lo stesso cantante della band), con cui Mandara sceglie di rendere merito ad una delle pagine più significative del rock nostrano.

PROGRESSIVE   NEW PLANET EARTH? is the 4th album by Italian prog band The Watch. Melodies, energy and 70s classic progressive rock atmospheres are the main focus of the opus. The search for unusual harmonies has been a main goal for the band in this album. Pure classic 70s sound obtained using original instruments (not sampler) like the real mellotron, the Hammond organ, moog synthesizers, flute and 12 strings guitars. The band effort was to write some good songs and you will find 7 songs in it, simple enough to let you experience deep music feelings at the very first listening but particular enough to let you discover interesting melodies and new musical nuances every time you play it.
